Porsche and Frauscher have collaborated to showcase the capabilities of the upcoming Macan EV by retrofitting its electric powertrain into a luxurious sports boat called the 850 Fantom Air.
This boat features a powerful electric motor with 536 horsepower and a 100-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery that can be charged to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes. The eFantom sports boat is set to have its world premiere in January 2024, offering impressive performance and an environmentally friendly nature. This unique collaboration between Porsche and Frauscher aims to demonstrate the potential of the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture. The boat’s motor is the same one that will be used in the highly-anticipated next-generation Macan EV, although the exact power output for the Macan EV has yet to be confirmed. The eFantom sports boat is equipped with a 100-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery that powers its single motor, connected to the marine Z-drive through a shaft.
The battery of the eFantom can be charged using a DC source at a rate of up to 250 kW. Porsche claims that this charging method can quickly bring the battery’s state of charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes. Along with the DC charging option, there is also an 11-kW charger available as standard. The eFantom, a boat designed by Porsche, offers various pre-programmed driving modes such as Docking, Range, Sport, and Sport Plus settings. The steering wheel of the boat is covered in marine-grade materials to withstand harsh sea conditions, and the Porsche-designed seats feature embroidered logos on the integrated headrests. In Docking mode, the boat’s speed is limited to eight knots (about nine miles per hour) for harbor driving. However, in Sport Plus mode, the boat can reach an impressive top speed of 46 knots (approximately 43 mph). The driving range of the eFantom depends on the speed of travel. At a cruising speed of 22 knots (around 23 mph), the boat can travel for about one hour or cover a distance of 28 miles. If the journey involves a mix of slow and high-speed travel, the trip time can extend to two to three hours. Stefan Frauscher, Managing Director of Frauscher Shipyard, expressed that the eFantom is a remarkable achievement in the industry. The electric version of the Fantom Air surpasses the internal combustion engine version in terms of top speed, acceleration, and handling. Moreover, it is an environmentally friendly option as it produces zero emissions.
The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air is a spacious boat, measuring 341.3 inches (8.67 meters) in length and 98 inches (2.49 meters) in width, capable of accommodating up to nine passengers. It features a swimming platform at the rear, a premium audio system with Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, LED ambient lighting, LED underwater lighting, a cooling compartment, and a 12-inch multi-information display for the driver.
The eFantom, a new boat model by Frauscher, had its official world premiere in January 2024 in Dusseldorf. It will be released as a limited first edition of 25 units, available for order directly from Frauscher. The starting price for this special edition is €561,700. The construction of the boat will take place at the Frauscher Shipyard in Ohlsdorf, Austria, and Frauscher will handle all sales logistics and after-sales management for the eFantom.
