Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, to visit Southampton

The Duchess of York will be in Southampton on Saturday as part of the South Coast Boat Show.

To celebrate the completion of their latest round the world race, a welcome home parade and celebration party has been organized for the crew of the yacht, Maiden. Last Tuesday, on April 16, Maiden and its young all-female crew arrived in Cowes, having sailed over 28,000 nautical miles using only a sextant, charts, and the stars.

For the record, on the same race thirty-four years ago, Maiden gained recognition as the first ever all-female crew to sail around the globe in the Whitbread Round the World Race of 1990. The boat was originally launched by Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, who has been following Maiden’s journey since its inception.

Expressing her pride in Maiden’s crew for their final world race, the Duchess of York stated, “I am extremely proud of the Maidens for successfully completing this final round the world race. Your extraordinary strength and determination are truly inspiring.”
